 40:1 ¶ And it came to passº afterº theseº things,º [that] the butlerººº of the kingº of Mixrayim מִצרַיִםº and [his] bakerºº had offendedºº their ´áðôn אֲדוֹןº the kingº of Mixrayim מִצרַיִם.º

 40:1 ¶ And it came to pass after these things, [that] the butler of the king of Mitzrayim and [his] baker had offended their adon the king of Mitzrayim.

 40:2 And Par`ò פַּרעֹהº was wrothºº againstº twoº [of] his officers,º againstº the chiefº of the butlers,ººº and againstº the chiefº of the bakers.ºº

 40:2 And Paroh was wroth against two [of] his officers, against the chief of the butlers, and against the chief of the bakers.

 40:3 And he putºº them in wardº in the houseº of the captainº of the guard,º intoº the prison,ºº the placeº whereºº Yôsëf יוֹסֵףº [was] bound.ºº

 40:3 And he put them in ward in the house of the captain of the guard, into the prison, the place where Yosef [was] bound.

 40:4 And the captainº of the guardº chargedººº Yôsëf יוֹסֵףº withº them, and he servedºº them: and they continuedº a seasonº in ward.º

 40:4 And the captain of the guard charged Yosef with them, and he served them: and they continued a season in ward.

 40:5 ¶ And they dreamedºº a dreamº bothº of them,º each manº his dreamº in oneº night,º each manº according to the interpretationº of his dream,º the butlerººº and the bakerºº of the kingº of Mixrayim מִצרַיִם,º whichº [were] boundºº in the prison.ºº

 40:5 ¶ And they dreamed a dream both of them, each man his dream in one night, each man according to the interpretation of his dream, the butler and the baker of the king of Mitzrayim, which [were] bound in the prison.

 40:6 And Yôsëf יוֹסֵףº came inºº untoº them in the morning,º and lookedºº uponº them, and, behold,º they [were] sad.ºº

 40:6 And Yosef came in unto them in the morning, and looked upon them, and, behold, they [were] sad.

 40:7 And he askedººº Par`ò's פַּרעֹהº officersº thatº [were] withº him in the wardº of his ´áðôn's אֲדוֹןº house,º saying,ºº Whereforeº lookº ye [so] sadlyº to day?º

 40:7 And he asked Paroh's officers that [were] with him in the ward of his adon's house, saying, Wherefore look ye [so] sadly to day?

 40:8 And they saidºº untoº him, We have dreamedºº a dream,º and [there is] noº interpreterºº of it. And Yôsëf יוֹסֵףº saidºº untoº them, [Do] notº interpretationsº [belong] to ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִים?º tellº meºº [them], I pray you.º

 40:8 And they said unto him, We have dreamed a dream, and [there is] no interpreter of it. And Yosef said unto them, [Do] not interpretations [belong] to Elohim? tell me [them], I pray you.

 40:9 And the chiefº butlerººº toldººº his dreamº to Yôsëf יוֹסֵף,º and saidºº to him, In my dream,º behold,º a vineº [was] beforeº me;º

 40:9 And the chief butler told his dream to Yosef, and said to him, In my dream, behold, a vine [was] before me;

 40:10 And in the vineº [were] threeº branches:º and it [was] as though it budded,ºº [and] herº blossomsº shot forth;ºº and the clustersº thereof brought forthº ripeºº grapes:º

 40:10 And in the vine [were] three branches: and it [was] as though it budded, [and] her blossoms shot forth; and the clusters thereof brought forth ripe grapes:

 40:11 And Par`ò's פַּרעֹהº cupº [was] in my hand:º and I tookººº the grapes,º and pressedºº them intoº Par`ò's פַּרעֹהº cup,º and I gaveººº the cupº intoº Par`ò's פַּרעֹהº hand.º

 40:11 And Paroh's cup [was] in my hand: and I took the grapes, and pressed them into Paroh's cup, and I gave the cup into Paroh's hand.

 40:12 And Yôsëf יוֹסֵףº saidºº unto him, Thisº [is] the interpretationº of it: The threeº branchesº [are] threeº days:º

 40:12 And Yosef said unto him, This [is] the interpretation of it: The three branches [are] three days:

 40:13 Yetº within threeº daysº shall Par`ò פַּרעֹהº lift upººº thine head,º and restoreºº thee untoº thy place:º and thou shalt deliverºº Par`ò's פַּרעֹהº cupº into his hand,º after the formerº mannerº whenº thou wastº his butler.ººº

 40:13 Yet within three days shall Paroh lift up thine head, and restore thee unto thy place: and thou shalt deliver Paroh's cup into his hand, after the former manner when thou wast his butler.

 40:14 Butºº thinkºº onº me whenº it shall be wellºº with thee, and shewºº kindness,º I pray thee,º untoº me, and make mentionºº of me untoº Par`ò פַּרעֹה,º and bring meºº outº ofº thisº house:º

 40:14 But think on me when it shall be well with thee, and shew kindness, I pray thee, unto me, and make mention of me unto Paroh, and bring me out of this house:

 40:15 Forº indeed I was stolen awayºº out of the landºº of the `Ivrîm עִברִים:º and hereº alsoº have I doneºº nothingºº thatº they should putºº me into the dungeon.º

 40:15 For indeed I was stolen away out of the land of the Ivrim: and here also have I done nothing that they should put me into the dungeon.

 40:16 When the chiefº bakerºº sawºº thatº the interpretationºº was good,º he saidºº untoº Yôsëf יוֹסֵף,º Iº alsoº [was] in my dream,º and, behold,º [I had] threeº whiteº basketsº onº my head:º

 40:16 When the chief baker saw that the interpretation was good, he said unto Yosef, I also [was] in my dream, and, behold, [I had] three white baskets on my head:

 40:17 And in the uppermostº basketº [there was] of all mannerººº of bakemeatsºººº for Par`ò פַּרעֹה;º and the birdsº did eatºº them out ofº the basketº uponºº my head.º

 40:17 And in the uppermost basket [there was] of all manner of bakemeats for Paroh; and the birds did eat them out of the basket upon my head.

 40:18 And Yôsëf יוֹסֵףº answeredºº and said,ºº Thisº [is] the interpretationº thereof: The threeº basketsº [are] threeº days:º

 40:18 And Yosef answered and said, This [is] the interpretation thereof: The three baskets [are] three days:

 40:19 Yetº within threeº daysº shall Par`ò פַּרעֹהº lift upººº thy headº from offºº thee, and shall hangºº thee onº a tree;º and the birdsº shall eatººº thy fleshº from offºº thee.

 40:19 Yet within three days shall Paroh lift up thy head from off thee, and shall hang thee on a tree; and the birds shall eat thy flesh from off thee.

 40:20 ¶ And it came to passº the thirdº day,º [which was]º Par`ò's פַּרעֹהº birthday,ººº that he madeºº a feastº unto allº his servants:º and he lifted upººº the headº of the chiefº butlerººº and of the chiefº bakerºº amongº his servants.º

 40:20 ¶ And it came to pass the third day, [which was] Paroh's birthday, that he made a feast unto all his servants: and he lifted up the head of the chief butler and of the chief baker among his servants.

 40:21 And he restoredººº the chiefº butlerººº untoº his butlershipº again;ºº and he gaveºº the cupº intoº Par`ò's פַּרעֹהº hand:º

 40:21 And he restored the chief butler unto his butlership again; and he gave the cup into Paroh's hand:

 40:22 But he hangedºº the chiefº baker:ºº asº Yôsëf יוֹסֵףº had interpretedºº to them.

 40:22 But he hanged the chief baker: as Yosef had interpreted to them.

 40:23 Yet did notº the chiefº butlerººº rememberººº Yôsëf יוֹסֵף,º but forgatºº him.

 40:23 Yet did not the chief butler remember Yosef, but forgat him.
