 26:1 ¶
And there wasº
a famineº
in the land,º
besideºº
the firstº
famineº
thatº
wasº
in the daysº
of
´Avrähäm
אַברָהָם.º
And
Yixçäk
יִצחָקº
wentººº
untoº
´Ávîmele¢
אֲבִימֶלֶךº
kingº
of the
Pælištîm

גְּרָר.º |
|
 26:1 ¶
And there was a famine in the land, beside the first famine that was in the days of Avraham. And Yitzchaq went unto Avimelekh king of the Pelishtim unto Gerar. |
 26:2
And
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
appearedºº
untoº
him, and said,ºº
Go not downººº
into
Mixrayim
מִצרַיִם;º
dwellºº
in the landº
whichº
I shall tellºº
thee of:º |
|
 26:2
And Yahweh appeared unto him, and said, Go not down into Mitzrayim; dwell in the land which I shall tell thee of: |
 26:3
Sojournºº
in thisº
land,º
and I will beº
withº
thee, and will blessºº
thee; forº
unto thee, and unto thy seed,º
I will giveººº
allº
theseº
countries,º
and I will performººº
the oathº
whichº
I swareºº
unto
´Avrähäm
אַברָהָםº
thy father;º |
|
 26:3
Sojourn in this land, and I will be with thee, and will bless thee; for unto thee, and unto thy seed, I will give all these countries, and I will perform the oath which I sware unto Avraham thy father; |
 26:4
And I will makeººº
thy seedº
to multiplyºº
as the starsº
of heaven,º
and will giveºº
unto thy seedºº
allº
theseº
countries;º
and in thy seedº
shall allº
the nationsº
of the earthº
be blessed;ºº |
|
 26:4
And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; |
 26:5
Becauseº
thatº
´Avrähäm
אַברָהָםº
obeyedºº
my voice,º
and keptºº
my charge,º
my commandments,º
my statutes,º
and my laws.º |
|
 26:5
Because that Avraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws. |
 26:6 ¶
And
Yixçäk
יִצחָקº
dweltºº
in
Gærär
גְּרָר:º |
|
 26:6 ¶
And Yitzchaq dwelt in Gerar: |
 26:7
And the menºº
of the placeº
askedºº
[him] of his wife;º
and he said,ºº
Sheº
[is] my sister:º
forº
he fearedºº
to say,ºº
[She is] my wife;º
lest,º
[said he], the menºº
of the placeº
should killºº
me forº
Rivkà
רִבקָה;º
becauseº
sheº
[was] fairº
to look upon.º |
|
 26:7
And the men of the place asked [him] of his wife; and he said, She [is] my sister: for he feared to say, [She is] my wife; lest, [said he], the men of the place should kill me for Rivqah; because she [was] fair to look upon. |
 26:8
And it came to pass,º
whenº
he had been thereº
a longºº
time,º
that
´Ávîmele¢
אֲבִימֶלֶךº
kingº
of the
Pælištîm
פְּלִשׁתִּיםº
looked outºº
atº
a window,º
and saw,ºº
and, behold,º
Yixçäk
יִצחָקº
[was] sportingºº
withº
Rivkà
רִבקָהº
his wife.º |
|
 26:8
And it came to pass, when he had been there a long time, that Avimelekh king of the Pelishtim looked out at a window, and saw, and, behold, Yitzchaq [was] sporting with Rivqah his wife. |
 26:9
And
´Ávîmele¢
אֲבִימֶלֶךº
calledºº
Yixçäk
יִצחָק,º
and said,ºº
Behold,º
of a suretyº
sheº
[is] thy wife:º
and howº
saidstºº
thou, Sheº
[is] my sister?º
And
Yixçäk
יִצחָקº
saidºº
untoº
him, Becauseº
I said,ºº
Lestº
I dieºº
forº
her. |
|
 26:9
And Avimelekh called Yitzchaq, and said, Behold, of a surety she [is] thy wife: and how saidst thou, She [is] my sister? And Yitzchaq said unto him, Because I said, Lest I die for her. |
 26:10
And
´Ávîmele¢
אֲבִימֶלֶךº
said,ºº
Whatº
[is] thisº
thou hast doneºº
unto us? oneº
of the peopleº
might lightlyº
have lienºº
withº
thy wife,º
and thou shouldest have broughtºº
guiltinessº
uponº
us. |
|
 26:10
And Avimelekh said, What [is] this thou hast done unto us? one of the people might lightly have lien with thy wife, and thou shouldest have brought guiltiness upon us. |
 26:11
And
´Ávîmele¢
אֲבִימֶלֶךº
chargedººº
allº
[his] people,º
saying,ºº
He that touchethºº
thisº
manº
or his wifeº
shall surelyºº
be put to death.ºº |
|
 26:11
And Avimelekh charged all [his] people, saying, He that toucheth this man or his wife shall surely be put to death. |
 26:12
Then
Yixçäk
יִצחָקº
sowedºº
in thatº
land,º
and receivedºº
in the sameº
yearº
an hundredfold:ºº
and
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
blessedºº
him. |
|
 26:12
Then Yitzchaq sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and Yahweh blessed him. |
 26:13
And the manº
waxed great,ºº
and wentººº
forward,ºº
and grewº
untilºº
he becameºº
veryº
great:ººº |
|
 26:13
And the man waxed great, and went forward, and grew until he became very great: |
 26:14
For he hadº
possessionº
of flocks,º
and possessionº
of herds,º
and great storeº
of servants:º
and the
Pælištîm
פְּלִשׁתִּיםº
enviedºº
him. |
|
 26:14
For he had possession of flocks, and possession of herds, and great store of servants: and the Pelishtim envied him. |
 26:15
For allº
the wellsº
whichº
his father'sº
servantsº
had diggedºº
in the daysº
of
´Avrähäm
אַברָהָםº
his father,º
the
Pælištîm
פְּלִשׁתִּיםº
had stoppedºº
them, and filledºº
them with earth.º |
|
 26:15
For all the wells which his father's servants had digged in the days of Avraham his father, the Pelishtim had stopped them, and filled them with earth. |
 26:16
And
´Ávîmele¢
אֲבִימֶלֶךº
saidºº
untoº
Yixçäk
יִצחָק,º
Goººº
fromºº
us; forº
thou art muchº
mightierººº
thanº
we. |
|
 26:16
And Avimelekh said unto Yitzchaq, Go from us; for thou art much mightier than we. |
 26:17 ¶
And
Yixçäk
יִצחָקº
departedººº
thence,ºº
and pitched his tentºº
in the valleyº
of
Gærär
גְּרָר,º
and dweltºº
there.º |
|
 26:17 ¶
And Yitzchaq departed thence, and pitched his tent in the valley of Gerar, and dwelt there. |
 26:18
And
Yixçäk
יִצחָקº
diggedºº
againººº
the wellsº
of water,º
whichº
they had diggedºº
in the daysº
of
´Avrähäm
אַברָהָםº
his father;º
for the
Pælištîm
פְּלִשׁתִּיםº
had stoppedºº
them afterº
the deathº
of
´Avrähäm
אַברָהָם:º
and he calledºº
their namesº
after the namesº
by whichº
his fatherº
had calledºº
them. |
|
 26:18
And Yitzchaq digged again the wells of water, which they had digged in the days of Avraham his father; for the Pelishtim had stopped them after the death of Avraham: and he called their names after the names by which his father had called them. |
 26:19
And
Yixçäk's
יִצחָקº
servantsº
diggedºº
in the valley,º
and foundºº
thereº
a wellº
of springingº
water.º |
|
 26:19
And Yitzchaq's servants digged in the valley, and found there a well of springing water. |
 26:20
And the herdmenºº
of
Gærär
גְּרָרº
did striveºº
withº
Yixçäk's
יִצחָקº
herdmen,ºº
saying,ºº
The waterº
[is] ours: and he calledºº
the nameº
of the wellº
`Ë$ek
עֵשֶׂק;º
becauseº
they stroveºº
withº
him. |
|
 26:20
And the herdmen of Gerar did strive with Yitzchaq's herdmen, saying, The water [is] ours: and he called the name of the well Eseq; because they strove with him. |
 26:21
And they diggedºº
anotherº
well,º
and stroveºº
forº
that also:º
and he calledºº
the nameº
of itº
§i+nà
שִׂטנָה.º |
|
 26:21
And they digged another well, and strove for that also: and he called the name of it Sitnah. |
 26:22
And he removedºº
from thence,ºº
and diggedºº
anotherº
well;º
and forº
that they stroveºº
not:º
and he calledºº
the nameº
of itº
Ræçövô±
רְחֹבוֹת;º
and he said,ºº
Forº
nowº
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
hath made roomºº
for us, and we shall be fruitfulºº
in the land.º |
|
 26:22
And he removed from thence, and digged another well; and for that they strove not: and he called the name of it Rechovoth; and he said, For now Yahweh hath made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land. |
 26:23
And he went upºº
from thenceºº
to
Bæ´ër Ševa`
בְּאֵר־שֶׁבַע.º |
|
 26:23
And he went up from thence to Beer-Sheva. |
 26:24
And
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
appearedºº
untoº
him the sameº
night,º
and said,ºº
Iº
[am] the
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִיםº
of
´Avrähäm
אַברָהָםº
thy father:º
fearºº
not,º
forº
Iº
[am] withº
thee, and will blessºº
thee, and multiplyººº
thy seedº
forº
my servantº
´Avrähäm's
אַברָהָםº
sake. |
|
 26:24
And Yahweh appeared unto him the same night, and said, I [am] the Elohim of Avraham thy father: fear not, for I [am] with thee, and will bless thee, and multiply thy seed for my servant Avraham's sake. |
 26:25
And he buildedºº
an altarº
there,º
and calledºº
upon the nameº
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶה,º
and pitchedºº
his tentº
there:º
and thereº
Yixçäk's
יִצחָקº
servantsº
diggedºº
a well.º |
|
 26:25
And he builded an altar there, and called upon the name of Yahweh, and pitched his tent there: and there Yitzchaq's servants digged a well. |
 26:26 ¶
Then
´Ávîmele¢
אֲבִימֶלֶךº
wentºº
toº
him from
Gærär
גְּרָר,ºº
and
´Áçuzza±
אֲחֻזַּתº
one of his friends,º
and
Pî¢öl
פִּיכֹלº
the chief captainº
of his army.º |
|
 26:26 ¶
Then Avimelekh went to him from Gerar, and Achuzzath one of his friends, and Pikhol the chief captain of his army. |
 26:27
And
Yixçäk
יִצחָקº
saidºº
untoº
them, Whereforeº
comeºº
ye toº
me, seeing yeº
hateºº
me, and have sent me awayºº
fromº
you? |
|
 26:27
And Yitzchaq said unto them, Wherefore come ye to me, seeing ye hate me, and have sent me away from you? |
 26:28
And they said,ºº
We sawºº
certainlyºº
thatº
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
wasº
withº
thee: and we said,ºº
Let there beº
nowº
an oathº
betwixtº
us, [even] betwixtº
us and thee, and let us makeºº
a covenantº
withº
thee; |
|
 26:28
And they said, We saw certainly that Yahweh was with thee: and we said, Let there be now an oath betwixt us, [even] betwixt us and thee, and let us make a covenant with thee; |
 26:29
Thatº
thou wilt doºº
us no hurt,º
asº
we have notº
touchedºº
thee, and asº
we have doneºº
untoº
thee nothing butº
good,º
and have sent thee awayºº
in peace:º
thouº
[art] nowº
the blessedºº
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶה.º |
|
 26:29
That thou wilt do us no hurt, as we have not touched thee, and as we have done unto thee nothing but good, and have sent thee away in peace: thou [art] now the blessed of Yahweh. |
 26:30
And he madeºº
them a feast,º
and they did eatºº
and drink.ºº |
|
 26:30
And he made them a feast, and they did eat and drink. |
 26:31
And they rose up betimesºº
in the morning,º
and swareºº
oneº
to another:º
and
Yixçäk
יִצחָקº
sent them away,ºº
and they departedººº
fromºº
him in peace.º |
|
 26:31
And they rose up betimes in the morning, and sware one to another: and Yitzchaq sent them away, and they departed from him in peace. |
 26:32
And it came to passº
the sameº
day,º
that
Yixçäk's
יִצחָקº
servantsº
came,ºº
and toldºº
him concerningºº
the wellº
whichº
they had digged,ºº
and saidºº
unto him, We have foundºº
water.º |
|
 26:32
And it came to pass the same day, that Yitzchaq's servants came, and told him concerning the well which they had digged, and said unto him, We have found water. |
 26:33
And he calledºº
it
Šiv`à
שִׁבעָה:º
thereforeºº
the nameº
of the cityº
[is]
Bæ´ër Ševa`
בְּאֵר־שֶׁבַעº
untoº
thisº
day.º |
|
 26:33
And he called it Shivah: therefore the name of the city [is] Beer-Sheva unto this day. |
 26:34 ¶
