 43:1 ¶ And the famineº [was] soreº in the land.º

 43:1 ¶ And the famine [was] sore in the land.

 43:2 And it came to pass,º whenº they had eaten upººººº the cornº whichº they had broughtº outºº of Mixrayim מִצרַיִם,ºº their fatherº saidºº untoº them, Go again,ºº buyºº us a littleº food.º

 43:2 And it came to pass, when they had eaten up the corn which they had brought out of Mitzrayim, their father said unto them, Go again, buy us a little food.

 43:3 And Yæhûðà יְהוּדָהº spakeºº untoº him, saying,ºº The manº did solemnlyºº protestºº unto us, saying,ºº Ye shall notº seeºº my face,º exceptº your brotherº [be] withº you.

 43:3 And Yehudah spake unto him, saying, The man did solemnly protest unto us, saying, Ye shall not see my face, except your brother [be] with you.

 43:4 Ifº thou wiltº sendººº our brotherº withº us, we will go downºº and buyºº thee food:º

 43:4 If thou wilt send our brother with us, we will go down and buy thee food:

 43:5 But ifº thou wilt notº sendºº [him], we will notº go down:ºº forº the manº saidºº untoº us, Ye shall notº seeºº my face,º exceptº your brotherº [be] withº you.

 43:5 But if thou wilt not send [him], we will not go down: for the man said unto us, Ye shall not see my face, except your brother [be] with you.

 43:6 And Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵלº said,ºº Whereforeº dealt ye [so] illºº with me, [as] to tellºº the manº whether ye had yetº a brother?º

 43:6 And Yisrael said, Wherefore dealt ye [so] ill with me, [as] to tell the man whether ye had yet a brother?

 43:7 And they said,ºº The manº askedºº us straitlyºº of our state, and of our kindred,º saying,ºº [Is] your fatherº yetº alive?º haveº yeº [another] brother?º and we toldºº him accordingº toº the tenorº of theseº words:º could we certainlyºº knowºº thatº he would say,ºº Bringºº your brotherº down?ºººº

 43:7 And they said, The man asked us straitly of our state, and of our kindred, saying, [Is] your father yet alive? have ye [another] brother? and we told him according to the tenor of these words: could we certainly know that he would say, Bring your brother down?

 43:8 And Yæhûðà יְהוּדָהº saidºº untoº Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵלº his father,º Sendºº the ladº withº me, and we will ariseºº and go;ººº that we may live,ºº and notº die,ºº bothº we,º andº thou,º [and] alsoº our little ones.º

 43:8 And Yehudah said unto Yisrael his father, Send the lad with me, and we will arise and go; that we may live, and not die, both we, and thou, [and] also our little ones.

 43:9 Iº will be suretyºº for him; of my handºº shalt thou requireºº him: ifºº I bringºº him notºº untoº thee, and setºº him beforeº thee,º then let me bear the blameºº for ever:ºº

 43:9 I will be surety for him; of my hand shalt thou require him: if I bring him not unto thee, and set him before thee, then let me bear the blame for ever:

 43:10 Forº exceptº we had lingered,ºº surelyº nowº we had returnedºº thisº second time.º

 43:10 For except we had lingered, surely now we had returned this second time.

 43:11 And their fatherº Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵלº saidºº untoº them, Ifº [it must be] soº now,º doºº this;º takeºº of the best fruitsºº in the landº in your vessels,º and carry downºº the manº a present,º a littleº balm,º and a littleº honey,º spices,º and myrrh,º nuts,º and almonds:º

 43:11 And their father Yisrael said unto them, If [it must be] so now, do this; take of the best fruits in the land in your vessels, and carry down the man a present, a little balm, and a little honey, spices, and myrrh, nuts, and almonds:

 43:12 And takeºº doubleº moneyº in your hand;º and the moneyº that was brought againºº in the mouthº of your sacks,º carry [it] againºº in your hand;º peradventureº itº [was] an oversight:º

 43:12 And take double money in your hand; and the money that was brought again in the mouth of your sacks, carry [it] again in your hand; peradventure it [was] an oversight:

 43:13 Takeºº also your brother,º and arise,ºº go againºº untoº the man:º

 43:13 Take also your brother, and arise, go again unto the man:

 43:14 And ´Ël אֵלº Šadday שַׁדַּיº giveºº you mercyº beforeº the man,º that he may send awayººº your otherº brother,º and Binyämîn בִּניָמִין.º Ifº Iº be bereavedºº [of my children], I am bereaved.ºº

 43:14 And El Shadday give you mercy before the man, that he may send away your other brother, and Binyamin. If I be bereaved [of my children], I am bereaved.

 43:15 ¶ And the menºº tookººº thatº present,º and they tookºº doubleº moneyº in their hand,º and Binyämîn בִּניָמִין;º and rose up,ºº and went downºº to Mixrayim מִצרַיִם,º and stoodºº beforeº Yôsëf יוֹסֵף.º

 43:15 ¶ And the men took that present, and they took double money in their hand, and Binyamin; and rose up, and went down to Mitzrayim, and stood before Yosef.

 43:16 And when Yôsëf יוֹסֵףº sawººº Binyämîn בִּניָמִיןº withº them, he saidºº to the ruler ofºº his house,º Bringººº [these] menºº home,º and slay,ººº and make ready;ºº forº [these] menºº shall dineºº withº me at noon.º

 43:16 And when Yosef saw Binyamin with them, he said to the ruler of his house, Bring [these] men home, and slay, and make ready; for [these] men shall dine with me at noon.

 43:17 And the manº didºº asº Yôsëf יוֹסֵףº bade;ºº and the manº broughtººº the menºº into Yôsëf's יוֹסֵףº house.º

 43:17 And the man did as Yosef bade; and the man brought the men into Yosef's house.

 43:18 And the menºº were afraid,ºº becauseº they were broughtºº into Yôsëf's יוֹסֵףº house;º and they said,ºº Becauseº ofºº the moneyº that was returnedºº in our sacksº at the first timeº are weº brought in;ºº that he may seek occasionºº againstº us, and fallºº uponº us, and takeºº us for bondmen,º and our asses.º

 43:18 And the men were afraid, because they were brought into Yosef's house; and they said, Because of the money that was returned in our sacks at the first time are we brought in; that he may seek occasion against us, and fall upon us, and take us for bondmen, and our asses.

 43:19 And they came nearºº toº the stewardººº of Yôsëf's יוֹסֵףº house,º and they communedºº withº him at the doorº of the house,º

 43:19 And they came near to the steward of Yosef's house, and they communed with him at the door of the house,

 43:20 And said,ºº Oº ´áðôn אֲדוֹן,º we came indeedºº downºº at the first timeº to buyºº food:º

 43:20 And said, O adon, we came indeed down at the first time to buy food:

 43:21 And it came to pass,º whenº we cameºº toº the inn,º that we openedººº our sacks,º and, behold,º [every] man'sº moneyº [was] in the mouthº of his sack,º our moneyº in full weight:º and we have brought it againººº in our hand.º

 43:21 And it came to pass, when we came to the inn, that we opened our sacks, and, behold, [every] man's money [was] in the mouth of his sack, our money in full weight: and we have brought it again in our hand.

 43:22 And otherº moneyº have we brought downºº in our handsº to buyºº food:º we cannotº tellºº whoº putºº our moneyº in our sacks.º

 43:22 And other money have we brought down in our hands to buy food: we cannot tell who put our money in our sacks.

 43:23 And he said,ºº Peaceº [be] to you, fearºº not:º your ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִים,º and the ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִיםº of your father,º hath givenºº you treasureº in your sacks:º I hadºº your money.º And he broughtºº Šim`ôn שִׁמעוֹןº outººº untoº them.

 43:23 And he said, Peace [be] to you, fear not: your Elohim, and the Elohim of your father, hath given you treasure in your sacks: I had your money. And he brought Shimon out unto them.

 43:24 And the manº broughtººº the menºº into Yôsëf's יוֹסֵףº house,º and gaveºº [them] water,º and they washedºº their feet;º and he gaveºº their assesº provender.º

 43:24 And the man brought the men into Yosef's house, and gave [them] water, and they washed their feet; and he gave their asses provender.

 43:25 And they made readyººº the presentº againstº Yôsëf יוֹסֵףº cameºº at noon:º forº they heardºº thatº they should eatºº breadº there.º

 43:25 And they made ready the present against Yosef came at noon: for they heard that they should eat bread there.

 43:26 ¶ And when Yôsëf יוֹסֵףº cameºº home,º they broughtºº himº the presentº whichº [was] in their handº into the house,º and bowedºº themselvesº to him to the earth.º

 43:26 ¶ And when Yosef came home, they brought him the present which [was] in their hand into the house, and bowed themselves to him to the earth.

 43:27 And he askedºº them of [their] welfare,º and said,ºº [Is] your fatherº well,º the old manº of whomº ye spake?ºº [Is] he yetº alive?º

 43:27 And he asked them of [their] welfare, and said, [Is] your father well, the old man of whom ye spake? [Is] he yet alive?

 43:28 And they answered,ºº Thy servantº our fatherº [is] in good health,º he [is] yetº alive.º And they bowed down their heads,ºº and made obeisance.ºº

 43:28 And they answered, Thy servant our father [is] in good health, he [is] yet alive. And they bowed down their heads, and made obeisance.

 43:29 And he lifted upºº his eyes,º and sawºº his brotherºº Binyämîn בִּניָמִין,º his mother'sº son,º and said,ºº [Is] thisº your youngerº brother,º of whomº ye spakeºº untoº me? And he said,ºº ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִיםº be graciousºº unto thee, my son.º

 43:29 And he lifted up his eyes, and saw his brother Binyamin, his mother's son, and said, [Is] this your younger brother, of whom ye spake unto me? And he said, Elohim be gracious unto thee, my son.

 43:30 And Yôsëf יוֹסֵףº made haste;ºº forº his bowelsº did yearnºº uponº his brother:º and he soughtºº [where] to weep;ºº and he enteredºº intoº [his] chamber,º and weptºº there.º

 43:30 And Yosef made haste; for his bowels did yearn upon his brother: and he sought [where] to weep; and he entered into [his] chamber, and wept there.

 43:31 And he washedºº his face,º and went out,ºº and refrainedºº himself,º and said,ºº Set onºº bread.º

 43:31 And he washed his face, and went out, and refrained himself, and said, Set on bread.

 43:32 And they set onºº for him by himself,º and for them by themselves,º and for the Mixrîm מִצרִים,º which did eatºº withº him, by themselves:º becauseº the Mixrîm מִצרִיםº mightºº notº eatºº breadº withº the `Ivrîm עִברִים;º forº thatº [is] an abominationº unto the Mixrîm מִצרִים.º

 43:32 And they set on for him by himself, and for them by themselves, and for the Mitzrim, which did eat with him, by themselves: because the Mitzrim might not eat bread with the Ivrim; for that [is] an abomination unto the Mitzrim.

 43:33 And they satºº beforeº him,º the firstbornº according to his birthright,º and the youngestº according to his youth:º and the menºº marvelledºº oneº atº another.º

 43:33 And they sat before him, the firstborn according to his birthright, and the youngest according to his youth: and the men marvelled one at another.

 43:34 And he tookºº [and sent] messesº untoº them fromºº beforeº him:º but Binyämîn's בִּניָמִיןº messº was fiveº timesº so much asºººººº anyº of theirs. And they drank,ºº and were merryºº withº him.

 43:34 And he took [and sent] messes unto them from before him: but Binyamin's mess was five times so much as any of theirs. And they drank, and were merry with him.
