 142:1 ¶ [[[A Psalm] of instruction for David, when he was in the cave,-- a Prayer.]] I cried to the Lord with my voice; with my voice I made supplication to the Lord.

 142:1 ¶ [[Maschilºº of David;º A Prayerº when he wasº in the cave.]]º I criedºº untoº Yahwehº with my voice;º with my voiceº untoº Yahwehº did I make my supplication.ºº

 142:2 I will pour out before him my supplication: I will declare before him mine affliction.

 142:2 I poured outºº my complaintº beforeº him; I shewedºº beforeº him my trouble.º

 142:3 When my spirit was fainting within me, then thou knewest my paths; in the very way wherein I was walking, they hid a snare for me.

 142:3 When my spiritº was overwhelmedºº withinº me, then thouº knewestºº my path.º In the wayº whereinº I walkedºº have they privily laidºº a snareº for me.

 142:4 I looked on [my] right hand, and behold, for there was none that noticed me; refuge failed me; and there was none that cared for my soul.

 142:4 I lookedºº on [my] right hand,º and beheld,ºº but [there was] no manº that would knowºº me: refugeº failedººº me; no manº caredºº for my soul.º

 142:5 I cried unto thee, O Lord, and said, Thou art my hope, my portion in the land of the living.

 142:5 I criedºº untoº thee, O Yahweh:º I said,ºº Thouº [art] my refugeº [and] my portionº in the landº of the living.º

 142:6 Attend to my supplication, for I am brought very low; deliver me from them that persecute me; for they are stronger than I.

 142:6 Attendºº untoº my cry;º forº I am broughtºº veryº low:ººº deliverºº me from my persecutors;ººº forº they are strongerºº thanº I.

 142:7 Bring my soul out of prison, that I may give thanks to thy name, O Lord; the righteous shall wait for me, until thou recompense me.

 142:7 Bringºº my soulº outºº of prison,ºº that I may praiseººº thy name:º the righteousº shall compass me about;ºº forº thou shalt deal bountifullyºº withº me.
