 35:1 ¶ [[[A Psalm] of David.]] Judge thou, O Lord, them that injure me, fight against them that fight against me.

 35:1 ¶ [[[A Psalm] of David.]]º Pleadºº [my cause], O Yahweh,º withº them that striveº with me: fightºº againstºº them that fightºº againstº me.

 35:2 Take hold of shield and buckler, and arise for my help.

 35:2 Take holdºº of shieldº and buckler,º and stand upºº for mine help.º

 35:3 Bring forth a sword, and stop [the way] against them that persecute me: say to my soul, I am thy salvation.

 35:3 Draw outºº also the spear,º and stopºº [the way] againstºº them that persecuteºº me: sayºº unto my soul,º Iº [am] thy salvation.º

 35:4 Let them that seek my soul be ashamed and confounded: let them that devise evils against me be turned back and put to shame.

 35:4 Let them be confoundedºº and put to shameºº that seekºº afterº my soul:º let them be turnedºº backº and brought to confusionºº that deviseºº my hurt.º

 35:5 Let them be as dust before the wind, and an angel of the Lord afflicting them.

 35:5 Let them beº as chaffº beforeº the wind:º and let the angelº of Yahwehº chaseºº [them].

 35:6 Let their way be dark and slippery, and an angel of the Lord persecuting them.

 35:6 Let their wayº beº darkº and slippery:º and let the angelº of Yahwehº persecuteºº them.

 35:7 For without cause they have hid for me their destructive snare: without a cause they have reproached my soul.

 35:7 Forº without causeº have they hidºº for me their netº [in] a pit,º [which] without causeº they have diggedºº for my soul.º

 35:8 Let a snare which they know not come upon them; and the gin which they hid take them; and let them fall into the very same snare.

 35:8 Let destructionº comeºº uponº him at unawares;ººº and let his netº thatº he hath hidºº catchºº himself: into that very destructionº let him fall.ºº

 35:9 But my soul shall exult in the Lord: it shall delight in his salvation.

 35:9 And my soulº shall be joyfulºº in Yahweh:º it shall rejoiceºº in his salvation.º

 35:10 All my bones shall say, O Lord, who is like to thee? delivering the poor out of the hand of them that are stronger than he, yea, the poor and needy one from them that spoil him.

 35:10 Allº my bonesº shall say,ºº Yahweh,º whoº [is] like unto thee,º which deliverestºº the poorº from him that is too strongºº forº him, yea, the poorº and the needyº from him that spoilethººº him?

 35:11 Unjust witnesses arose, and asked me of things I new not.

 35:11 Falseº witnessesº did rise up;ºº they laid to my chargeºº [things] thatº I knewºº not.º

 35:12 They rewarded me evil for good, and bereavement to my soul.

 35:12 They rewardedºº me evilº forº goodº [to] the spoilingº of my soul.º

 35:13 But I, when they troubled me, put on sackcloth, and humbled my soul with fasting: and my prayer shall return to my [own] bosom.

 35:13 But as for me,º when they were sick,ºº my clothingº [was] sackcloth:º I humbledºº my soulº with fasting;º and my prayerº returnedºº intoº mine own bosom.º

 35:14 I behaved agreeably towards them as [if it had been] our neighbour [or] brother: I humbled myself as one mourning and sad of countenance.

 35:14 I behavedºº myselfº as though [he had been] my friendº [or] brother:º I bowed downºº heavily,ºº as one that mournethº [for his] mother.º

 35:15 Yet they rejoiced against me, and plagues were plentifully brought against me, and I knew [it] not: they were scattered, but repented not.

 35:15 But in mine adversityº they rejoiced,ºº and gathered themselves together:ºº [yea], the abjectsº gathered themselves togetherºº againstº me, and I knewºº [it] not;º they did tearºº [me], and ceasedºº not:º

 35:16 They tempted me, they sneered at me most contemptuously, they gnashed their teeth upon me.

 35:16 With hypocriticalº mockersº in feasts,º they gnashedºº uponº me with their teeth.º

 35:17 O Lord, when wilt thou look upon me? Deliver my soul from their mischief, mine only-begotten one from the lions.

 35:17 Yahweh,º how longº wilt thou look on?ºº rescueºº my soulº from their destructions,ºº my darlingº from the lions.ºº

 35:18 I will give thanks to thee even in a great congregation: in an abundant people I will praise thee.

 35:18 I will give thee thanksºº in the greatº congregation:º I will praiseºº thee among muchº people.º

 35:19 Let not them that are mine enemies without a cause rejoice against me; who hate me for nothing, and wink with their eyes.

 35:19 Let notº them that are mine enemiesºº wrongfullyº rejoiceºº over me: [neither] let them winkºº with the eyeº that hateºº me without a cause.º

 35:20 For to me they spoke peaceably, but imagined deceits in [their] anger.

 35:20 Forº they speakºº notº peace:º but they deviseºº deceitfulº mattersº againstº [them that are] quietº in the land.º

 35:21 And they opened wide their mouth upon me; they said Aha, aha, our eyes have seen [it].

 35:21 Yea, they openedº their mouthº wideºº againstº me, [and] said,ºº Aha,º aha,º our eyeº hath seenºº [it].

 35:22 Thou hast seen [it], O Lord: keep not silence: O Lord, withdraw not [thyself] from me.

 35:22 [This] thou hast seen,ºº O Yahweh:º keep notº silence:ºº O Yahweh,º be notº farºº fromº me.

 35:23 Awake, O Lord, and attend to my judgment, [even] to my cause, my God and my Lord.

 35:23 Stir upºº thyself,º and awakeºº to my judgment,º [even] unto my cause,º my Elohimº and Adonai.º

 35:24 Judge me, O Lord, according to thy righteousness, O Lord my God; and let them not rejoice against me.

 35:24 Judgeºº me, O Yahwehº my Elohim,º according to thy righteousness;º and let them notº rejoiceºº over me.

 35:25 Let them not say in their hearts, Aha, aha, [it is pleasing] to our soul: neither let them say, We have devoured him.

 35:25 Let them notº sayºº in their hearts,º Ah,º so would we have it:º let them notº say,ºº We have swallowed him up.ºº

 35:26 Let them be confounded and ashamed together that rejoice at my afflictions: let them be clothed with shame and confusion that speak great swelling words against me.

 35:26 Let them be ashamedºº and brought to confusionºº togetherº that rejoiceº at mine hurt:º let them be clothedºº with shameº and dishonourº that magnifyºº [themselves] againstº me.

 35:27 Let them that rejoice in my righteousness exult and be glad: and let them say continually, The Lord be magnified, who desire the peace of his servant.

 35:27 Let them shout for joy,ºº and be glad,ºº that favourº my righteous cause:º yea, let them sayºº continually,º Let Yahwehº be magnified,ºº which hath pleasureº in the prosperityº of his servant.º

 35:28 And my tongue shall meditate on thy righteousness, [and] on thy praise all the day.

 35:28 And my tongueº shall speakºº of thy righteousnessº [and] of thy praiseº allº the dayº long.
