 88:1 ¶ [[A song of a Psalm for the sons of Korah{gr.Core} for the end, upon Maeleth for responsive [strains], of instruction for Heman{gr.Aeman} the Israelite.]] O Lord God of my salvation, I have cried by day and in the night before thee.

 88:1 ¶ [[A Songº [or] Psalmº for the sonsº of Korah,º to the chief Musicianºº uponº Mahalathº Leannoth,ºº Maschilºº of Hemanº the Ezrahite.]]º O Yahwehº Elohimº of my salvation,º I have criedºº dayº [and] nightº beforeº thee:

 88:2 Let my prayer come in before thee; incline thine ear to my supplication, O Lord.

 88:2 Let my prayerº comeºº beforeº thee: inclineºº thine earº unto my cry;º

 88:3 For my soul is filled with troubles, and my life has drawn nigh to the grave{gr.Hades}.

 88:3 Forº my soulº is fullºº of troubles:º and my lifeº draweth nighºº unto the grave.º

 88:4 I have been reckoned with them that go down to the pit; I became as a man without help;

 88:4 I am countedºº withº them that go downºº into the pit:º I amº as a manº [that hath] noº strength:º

 88:5 free among the dead, as the slain ones cast out, who sleep in the tomb; whom thou rememberest no more; and they are rejected from thy hand.

 88:5 Freeº among the dead,ºº likeº the slainº that lieºº in the grave,º whomº thou rememberestºº noº more:º and theyº are cut offºº from thy hand.ºº

 88:6 They laid me in the lowest pit, in dark [places], and in the shadow of death.

 88:6 Thou hast laidºº me in the lowestº pit,º in darkness,º in the deeps.º

 88:7 Thy wrath has pressed heavily upon me, and thou hast brought upon me all thy billows. Pause.

 88:7 Thy wrathº lieth hardºº uponº me, and thou hast afflictedºº [me] with allº thy waves.º Selah.º

 88:8 Thou hast removed my acquaintance far from me; they have made me an abomination to themselves; I have been delivered up, and have not gone forth.

 88:8 Thou hast put awayºº mine acquaintanceºº farºº fromº me; thou hast madeºº me an abominationº unto them: [I am] shut up,ºº and I cannotº come forth.ºº

 88:9 Mine eyes are dimmed from poverty; but I cried to thee, O Lord, all the day; I spread forth my hands to thee.

 88:9 Mine eyeº mournethºº by reason ofº affliction:º Yahweh,º I have calledºº dailyºº upon thee, I have stretched outºº my handsº unto thee.º

 88:10 Wilt thou work wonders for the dead? or shall physicians raise [them] up, that they shall praise thee?

 88:10 Wilt thou shewºº wondersº to the dead?ºº shall the deadº ariseºº [and] praiseºº thee? Selah.º

 88:11 Shall any one declare thy mercy in the tomb? and thy truth in destruction?

 88:11 Shall thy lovingkindnessº be declaredºº in the grave?º [or] thy faithfulnessº in destruction?º

 88:12 Shall thy wonders be known in darkness? and thy righteousness in a forgotten land?

 88:12 Shall thy wondersº be knownºº in the dark?º and thy righteousnessº in the landº of forgetfulness?º

 88:13 But I cried to thee, O Lord; and in the morning shall my prayer prevent thee.

 88:13 But untoº thee have Iº cried,ºº O Yahweh;º and in the morningº shall my prayerº preventºº thee.

 88:14 Wherefore, O Lord, dost thou reject my prayer, [and] turn thy face away from me?

 88:14 Yahweh,º whyº castest thou offºº my soul?º [why] hidestºº thou thy faceº fromº me?

 88:15 I am poor and in troubles from my youth; and having been exalted, I was brought low and into despair.

 88:15 Iº [am] afflictedº and ready to dieºº from [my] youthº up:ºº [while] I sufferºº thy terrorsº I am distracted.ºº

 88:16 Thy wrath has passed over me; and thy terrors have greatly disquieted me.

 88:16 Thy fierce wrathº goethº overººº me; thy terrorsº have cut me off.ºº

 88:17 They compassed me like water; all the day they beset me together.

 88:17 They came round aboutºº me dailyºº like water;º they compassedºº me aboutºº together.º

 88:18 Thou hast put far from me [every] friend, and mine acquaintances because of [my] wretchedness.

 88:18 Loverºº and friendº hast thou put farºº fromº me, [and] mine acquaintanceºº into darkness.º
