יָהוֶהº
will have mercyºº
onº
Ya`áköv
יַעֲקֹב,º
and will yetº
chooseºº
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל,º
and setººº
them inº
their own land:º
and the strangersº
shall be joinedºº
withº
them, and they shall cleaveºº
toº
the houseº
of
Ya`áköv
יַעֲקֹב.º |

 14:2
And the peopleº
shall takeºº
them, and bringºº
them toº
their place:º
and the houseº
of
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵלº
shall possessºº
them inº
the landº
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
for servantsº

and they shall takeº
them captives,ºº
whose captivesºº
they were; and they shall ruleºº
overº
their oppressors.ºº |
|

And the people shall take them, and bring them to their place: and the house of Yisrael shall possess them in the land of Yahweh for servants and handmaids: and they shall take them captives, whose captives they were; and they shall rule over their oppressors. |
 14:3
And it shall come to passº
in the dayº
that
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
shall give thee restºº
from thy sorrow,ºº
and from thy fear,ºº
and fromº
the hardº
bondageº
whereinº
thou wast made to serve,ºº |
|
 14:3
And it shall come to pass in the day that Yahweh shall give thee rest from thy sorrow, and from thy fear, and from the hard bondage wherein thou wast made to serve, |
 14:4 ¶
That thou shalt take upºº
thisº
proverbº
againstº
the kingº
of
Bävel
בָּבֶל,º
and say,ºº
Howº
hath the oppressorºº
ceased!ºº
the golden cityº
ceased!ºº |
|
 14:4 ¶
That thou shalt take up this proverb against the king of Bavel, and say, How hath the oppressor ceased! the golden city ceased! |

Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
hath brokenºº
the staffº
of the wicked,º
[and] the sceptreº
of the rulers.ºº |
|
 14:5
Yahweh hath broken the staff of the wicked, [and] the sceptre of the rulers. |
 14:6
He who smoteºº
the peopleº
in wrathº
with a continualºº
stroke,ººº
he that ruledºº
the nationsº
in anger,º
is persecuted,º
[and] noneº
hindereth.ºº |
|
 14:6
He who smote the people in wrath with a continual stroke, he that ruled the nations in anger, is persecuted, [and] none hindereth. |
 14:7
The wholeº
earthº
is at rest,ºº
[and] is quiet:ºº
they break forthºº
into singing.º |
|
 14:7
The whole earth is at rest, [and] is quiet: they break forth into singing. |
 14:8
Yea,º
the fir treesº
rejoiceºº
at thee, [and] the cedarsº
of
Lævänôn
לְבָנוֹן,º
[saying], Sinceºº
thou art laid down,ºº
noº
fellerºº
is come upºº
againstº
us. |
|
 14:8
Yea, the fir trees rejoice at thee, [and] the cedars of Levanon, [saying], Since thou art laid down, no feller is come up against us. |
 14:9
Hellº
from beneathºº
is movedºº
for thee to meetººº
[thee] at thy coming:ºº
it stirreth upºº
the deadº
for thee, [even] allº
the chief onesº
of the earth;º
it hath raised upºº
from their thronesºº
allº
the kingsº
of the nations.º |
|
 14:9
Hell from beneath is moved for thee to meet [thee] at thy coming: it stirreth up the dead for thee, [even] all the chief ones of the earth; it hath raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations. |
 14:10
Allº
they shall speakºº
and sayºº
unto thee, Art thouº
alsoº
become weakºº
as we? art thou become likeºº
untoº
us? |
|
 14:10
All they shall speak and say unto thee, Art thou also become weak as we? art thou become like unto us? |
 14:11
Thy pompº
is brought downºº
to the grave,º
[and] the noiseº
of thy viols:º
the wormº
is spreadºº
underº
thee, and the wormsº
coverº
thee. |
|
 14:11
Thy pomp is brought down to the grave, [and] the noise of thy viols: the worm is spread under thee, and the worms cover thee. |
 14:12
Howº
art thou fallenºº
from heaven,ºº
O
Hêlël
הֵילֵל,º
sonº
of the morning!ºººº
[how] art thou cut downºº
to the ground,º
which didst weakenººº
the nations!º |
|
 14:12
How art thou fallen from heaven, O Helel, son of the morning! [how] art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! |
 14:13
For thouº
hast saidºº
in thine heart,º
I will ascendºº
into heaven,º
I will exaltºº
my throneº
aboveºº
the starsº
of
´Ël
אֵל:º
I will sitºº
also upon the mountº
of the congregation,º
in the sidesº
of the north:º |
|
 14:13
For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of El: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: |
 14:14
I will ascendºº
aboveº
the heightsº
of the clouds;º
I will be likeºº
`Elyôn
עֶליוֹן.º |
|
 14:14
I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like Elyon. |
 14:15
Yetº
thou shalt be brought downºº
toº
hell,º
toº
the sidesº
of the pit.º |
|
 14:15
Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit. |
 14:16
They that seeºº
thee shall narrowly lookºº
uponº
thee, [and] considerºº
thee, [saying, Is] thisº
the manº
that made the earthº
to tremble,ºº
that did shakeºº
kingdoms;º |
|
 14:16
They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, [and] consider thee, [saying, Is] this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms; |
 14:17
[That] madeºº
the worldº
as a wilderness,º
and destroyedºº
the citiesº
thereof; [that] openedºº
notº
the houseº
of his prisoners?º |
|
 14:17
[That] made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; [that] opened not the house of his prisoners? |
 14:18
Allº
the kingsº
of the nations,º
[even] allº
of them, lieºº
in glory,º
every oneº
in his own house.º |
|
 14:18
All the kings of the nations, [even] all of them, lie in glory, every one in his own house. |
 14:19
But thouº
art castº
outºº
of thy graveºº
like an abominableºº
branch,º
[and as] the raimentº
of those that are slain,ºº
thrust throughºº
with a sword,º
that go downºº
toº
the stonesº
of the pit;º
as a carcaseº
trodden under feet.ºº |
|
 14:19
But thou art cast out of thy grave like an abominable branch, [and as] the raiment of those that are slain, thrust through with a sword, that go down to the stones of the pit; as a carcase trodden under feet. |
 14:20
Thou shalt notº
be joinedºº
withº
them in burial,º
becauseº
thou hast destroyedºº
thy land,º
[and] slainºº
thy people:º
the seedº
of evildoersºº
shall neverºº
be renowned.ºº |
|
 14:20
Thou shalt not be joined with them in burial, because thou hast destroyed thy land, [and] slain thy people: the seed of evildoers shall never be renowned. |
 14:21
Prepareºº
slaughterº
for his childrenº
for the iniquityº
of their fathers;º
that they do notº
rise,ºº
nor possessºº
the land,º
nor fillºº
the faceº
of the worldº
with cities.ººº |
|
 14:21
Prepare slaughter for his children for the iniquity of their fathers; that they do not rise, nor possess the land, nor fill the face of the world with cities. |
 14:22
For I will rise upºº
againstº
them, saithºº
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
Xævä´ô±
צְבָאוֹת,º
and cut offºº
from
Bävel
בָּבֶלº
the name,º
and remnant,º
and son,º
and nephew,º
saithºº
Yähwè
יָהוֶה.º |
|
 14:22
For I will rise up against them, saith Yahweh Tzevaoth, and cut off from Bavel the name, and remnant, and son, and nephew, saith Yahweh. |
 14:23
I will also makeºº
it a possessionº
for the bittern,º
and poolsº
of water:º
and I will sweepºº
it with the besomº
of destruction,ºº
saithºº
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
Xævä´ô±
צְבָאוֹת.º |
|
 14:23
I will also make it a possession for the bittern, and pools of water: and I will sweep it with the besom of destruction, saith Yahweh Tzevaoth. |
 14:24 ¶
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
Xævä´ô±
צְבָאוֹתº
hath sworn,ºº
saying,ºº
Surelyºº
asº
I have thought,ºº
soº
shall it come to pass;º
and asº
I have purposed,ºº
[so] shall itº
stand:ºº |
|
 14:24 ¶
Yahweh Tzevaoth hath sworn, saying, Surely as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed, [so] shall it stand: |
 14:25
That I will breakºº
the
´Aššûr
אַשּׁוּרº
in my land,º
and uponº
my mountainsº
tread him under foot:ºº
then shall his yokeº
departºº
from offºº
them, and his burdenº
departºº
from offºº
their shoulders.º |
|
 14:25
That I will break the Ashshur in my land, and upon my mountains tread him under foot: then shall his yoke depart from off them, and his burden depart from off their shoulders. |
 14:26
Thisº
[is] the purposeº
that is purposedºº
uponº
the wholeº
earth:º
and thisº
[is] the handº
that is stretched outºº
uponº
allº
the nations.º |
|
 14:26
This [is] the purpose that is purposed upon the whole earth: and this [is] the hand that is stretched out upon all the nations. |
 14:27
Forº
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
Xævä´ô±
צְבָאוֹתº
hath purposed,ºº
and whoº
shall disannulºº
[it]? and his handº
[is] stretched out,ºº
and whoº
shall turn it back?ºº |
|
 14:27
For Yahweh Tzevaoth hath purposed, and who shall disannul [it]? and his hand [is] stretched out, and who shall turn it back? |
 14:28
In the yearº
that kingº
´Äçäz
אָחָזº
diedº
wasº
thisº
burden.º |
|
 14:28
In the year that king Achaz died was this burden. |
 14:29 ¶
Rejoiceºº
notº
thou, wholeº
Pæleše±
פְּלֶשֶׁת,º
becauseº
the rodº
of him thatº
smoteºº
thee is broken:ºº
for out of the serpent'sº
rootººº
shall come forthºº
a cockatrice,º
and his fruitº
[shall be] a fieryºº
flyingºº
serpent.ºº |
|
 14:29 ¶
Rejoice not thou, whole Pelesheth, because the rod of him that smote thee is broken: for out of the serpent's root shall come forth a cockatrice, and his fruit [shall be] a fiery flying serpent. |
 14:30
And the firstbornº
of the poorº
shall feed,ºº
and the needyº
shall lie downºº
in safety:º
and I will killºº
thy rootº
with famine,º
and he shall slayºº
thy remnant.º |
|
 14:30
And the firstborn of the poor shall feed, and the needy shall lie down in safety: and I will kill thy root with famine, and he shall slay thy remnant. |
 14:31
Howl,ºº
O gate;º
cry,ºº
O city;º
thou, wholeº
Pæleše±
פְּלֶשֶׁת,º
[art] dissolved:ºº
forº
there shall comeºº
from the northºº
a smoke,º
and noneº
[shall be] aloneºº
in his appointed times.º |
|
 14:31
Howl, O gate; cry, O city; thou, whole Pelesheth, [art] dissolved: for there shall come from the north a smoke, and none [shall be] alone in his appointed times. |
 14:32
Whatº
shall [one] then answerºº
the messengersº
of the nation?º
Thatº
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
hath foundedºº
Xiyyôn
צִיּוֹן,º
and the poorº
of his peopleº
shall trustºº
in it. |
|
 14:32
What shall [one] then answer the messengers of the nation? That Yahweh hath founded Tziyyon, and the poor of his people shall trust in it. |
