against°

the defenced°°
cities°
of
Yæhûđà
יְהוּדָה,°
and took°°
them. |

36:1 ¶
Now it came to pass in the fourteenth year of king Chizqiyyah, [that] Sancheriv king of Ashshur came up against all the defenced cities of Yehudah, and took them. |

And the king°
of
´Aššûr
אַשּׁוּר°
sent°°°
Rav Šäkì
רַב־שָׁקֵה°
from
Läȼîš
לָכִישׁ°°
to
Yærûšälaim
יְרוּשָׁלִַם°
unto°
king°
Çizkiyyà
חִזקִיָּה°
with a great°
army.°°
And he stood°°
by the conduit°
of the upper°
pool°
in the highway°
of the fuller's°°
field.° |

And the king of Ashshur sent Rav-Shaqeh from Lakhish to Yerushalaim unto king Chizqiyyah with a great army. And he stood by the conduit of the upper pool in the highway of the fuller's field. |

Then came forth°°

אֶליָקִים,°
Çilkiyyà's
חִלקִיָּה°
son,°
which°
was over°
the house,°
and
Ševnä´
שֶׁבנָא°
the scribe,°°
and

אָסָף°
son,°
the recorder.°° |

Then came forth unto him Elyaqim, Chilqiyyah's son, which was over the house, and Shevna the scribe, and Yoach, Asaf's son, the recorder. |

ye now°

Çizkiyyà
חִזקִיָּה,°
Thus°
saith°°
the great°
king,°
the king°
of
´Aššûr
אַשּׁוּר,°

confidence°
[is] this°
wherein°
thou trustest?°° |

And Rav-Shaqeh said unto them, Say ye now to Chizqiyyah, Thus saith the great king, the king of Ashshur, What confidence [is] this wherein thou trustest? |

[sayest thou], (but°
[they are but] vain°
words)°
[I have] counsel°
and strength°
for war:°
now°
on°
whom°
dost thou trust,°°
that°
thou rebellest°°
against me? |

into his hand,°
and pierce°°
it: so°
[is]

פַּרעֹה°
king°
of
Mixrayim
מִצרַיִם°
to all°
that trust°°
in°
him. |

Lo, thou trustest in the staff of this broken reed, on Mitzrayim; whereon if a man lean, it will go into his hand, and pierce it: so [is] Paroh king of Mitzrayim to all that trust in him. |

if thou say°°
to°
me, We trust°°
in°

יָהוֶה°
our
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים:°
[is it] not°
he,°°
whose°
high places°
and whose altars°
Çizkiyyà
חִזקִיָּה°
hath taken away,°°
and said°°
to
Yæhûđà
יְהוּדָה°
and to
Yærûšälaim
יְרוּשָׁלִַם,°
Ye shall worship°°
before°
this°
altar?° |

But if thou say to me, We trust in Yahweh our Elohim: [is it] not he, whose high places and whose altars Chizqiyyah hath taken away, and said to Yehudah and to Yerushalaim, Ye shall worship before this altar? |

Now°
therefore give pledges,°°°
I pray thee,°
to°
my
´áđôn
אֲדוֹן°
the king°
of
´Aššûr
אַשּׁוּר,°
and I will give°°
thee two thousand°
horses,°
if°
thou be able°°
on thy part to set°°
riders°°
upon°
them. |

Now therefore give pledges, I pray thee, to my adon the king of Ashshur, and I will give thee two thousand horses, if thou be able on thy part to set riders upon them. |

36:9
How°
then wilt thou turn away°°°
the face°
of one°
captain°
of the least°
of my
´áđôn's
אֲדוֹן°
servants,°
and put thy trust°°
on°
Mixrayim
מִצרַיִם°
for chariots°
and for horsemen?° |

36:9
How then wilt thou turn away the face of one captain of the least of my adon's servants, and put thy trust on Mitzrayim for chariots and for horsemen? |

36:10
And am I now°
come up°°
without°°
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°
against°
this°
land°
to destroy°°
it?
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°
said°°
unto°
me, Go up°°
against°
this°
land,°
and destroy°°
it. |

And am I now come up without Yahweh against this land to destroy it? Yahweh said unto me, Go up against this land, and destroy it. |

36:11 ¶

unto°

רַב־שָׁקֵה,°
Speak,°°
I pray thee,°
unto°
thy servants°
in the
´Árämîŧ
אֲרָמִית language;°
for°
we°
understand°°
[it]: and speak°°
not°
to°
us in the
Yæhûđîm's
יְהוּדִים language,°
in the ears°
of the people°
that°
[are] on°
the wall.° |

36:11 ¶
Then said Elyaqim and Shevna and Yoach unto Rav-Shaqeh, Speak, I pray thee, unto thy servants in the Aramith language; for we understand [it]: and speak not to us in the Yehudim's language, in the ears of the people that [are] on the wall. |

36:12 ¶

Hath my

thy

אֲדוֹן°

thee to speak°°°
these°
words?°
[hath he] not°
[sent me] to°

the wall,°
that they may eat°°°
their own dung,°°°
and drink°°°
their own piss°°°°
with°
you? |

36:12 ¶
But Rav-Shaqeh said, Hath my adon sent me to thy adon and to thee to speak these words? [hath he] not [sent me] to the men that sit upon the wall, that they may eat their own dung, and drink their own piss with you? |

ye°

Then Rav-Shaqeh stood, and cried with a loud voice in the Yehudim's language, and said, Hear ye the words of the great king, the king of Ashshur. |

Let not°
Çizkiyyà
חִזקִיָּה°
deceive°°
you: for°
he shall not°
be able°°
to deliver°°
you. |

Thus saith the king, Let not Chizqiyyah deceive you: for he shall not be able to deliver you. |

deliver°°
us: this°
city°

Neither let Chizqiyyah make you trust in Yahweh, saying, Yahweh will surely deliver us: this city shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Ashshur. |

[an agreement] with°
me [by] a present,°

Hearken not to Chizqiyyah: for thus saith the king of Ashshur, Make [an agreement] with me [by] a present, and come out to me: and eat ye every one of his vine, and every one of his fig tree, and drink ye every one the waters of his own cistern; |

like your own land,°
a land°
of corn°
and wine,°
a land°
of bread°
and vineyards.° |

[Beware] lest Chizqiyyah persuade you, saying, Yahweh will deliver us. Hath any of the elohim of the nations delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Ashshur? |

lands,°

their land°
out of my hand,°°
that°
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°
should deliver°°°

Who [are they] among all the elohim of these lands, that have delivered their land out of my hand, that Yahweh should deliver Yerushalaim out of my hand? |

But they held their peace,°°
and answered°°
him not°
a word:°
for°
the king's°
commandment°
was, saying,°°
Answer°°
him not.° |

Then came Elyaqim, the son of Chilqiyyah, that [was] over the household, and Shevna the scribe, and Yoach, the son of Asaf, the recorder, to Chizqiyyah with [their] clothes rent, and told him the words of Rav-Shaqeh. |
