hath believedºº
our report?º
and toº
whomº
is the armº
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
revealed?ºº |

53:1 ¶
Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of Yahweh revealed? |

For he shall grow upºº
beforeº
him as a tender plant,º
and as a rootº
out of a dryº
ground:ºº
he hath noº
formº
norº
comeliness;º
and when we shall seeºº
him, [there is] noº
beautyº
that we should desireºº
him. |
|
53:2
For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, [there is] no beauty that we should desire him. |
|
53:3
He is despisedºº
and rejectedº
of men;º
a manº
of sorrows,º
and acquaintedºº
with grief:º
and we hidº
as it wereºº
[our] facesº
fromº
him; he was despised,ºº
and we esteemedºº
him not.º |

He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were [our] faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. |

53:4 ¶
Surelyº
heº
hath borneºº
our griefs,º
and carriedºº
our sorrows:º
yet weº
did esteemºº
him stricken,ºº
smittenºº
of
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים,º
and afflicted.ºº |

53:4 ¶
Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of Elohim, and afflicted. |

53:5
But heº
[was] woundedºº
for our transgressions,ºº
[he was] bruisedºº
for our iniquities:ºº
the chastisementº
of our peaceº
[was] uponº
him; and with his stripesº
we are healed.ºº |

But he [was] wounded for our transgressions, [he was] bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace [was] upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. |

Allº
we like sheepº
have gone astray;ºº
we have turnedºº
every oneº
to his own way;º
and
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
hath laidºº
on himº
the iniquityº
of us all.º |
|
53:6
All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and Yahweh hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. |
|
53:7
He was oppressed,ºº
and heº
was afflicted,ºº
yet he openedºº
notº
his mouth:º
he is broughtºº
as a lambº
to the slaughter,º
and as a sheepº
beforeº
her shearersºº
is dumb,ºº
so he openethºº
notº
his mouth.º |

He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth. |

53:8
He was takenºº
from prisonºº
and from judgment:ºº
and whoº
shall declareºº
his generation?º
forº
he was cut offºº
out of the landºº
of the living:º
for the transgressionºº
of my peopleº
was he stricken.º |

53:8
He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken. |

53:9
And he madeºº
his graveº
withº
the wicked,º
and withº
the richº
in his death;º
becauseº
he had doneºº
noº
violence,º
neitherº
[was any] deceitº
in his mouth.º |
|
53:9
And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither [was any] deceit in his mouth. |

53:10 ¶
Yet it pleasedºº
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
to bruiseºº
him; he hath put [him] to grief:ºº
whenº
thou shalt makeºº
his soulº
an offering for sin,º
he shall seeºº
[his] seed,º
he shall prolongºº
[his] days,º
and the pleasureº
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
shall prosperºº
in his hand.º |

53:10 ¶
Yet it pleased Yahweh to bruise him; he hath put [him] to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see [his] seed, he shall prolong [his] days, and the pleasure of Yahweh shall prosper in his hand. |

53:11
He shall seeºº
of the travailºº
of his soul,º
[and] shall be satisfied:ºº
by his knowledgeº
shall my righteousº
servantº
justifyºº
many;º
for heº
shall bearºº
their iniquities.º |
|
53:11
He shall see of the travail of his soul, [and] shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities. |

53:12
Thereforeº
will I divideºº
him [a portion] with the great,º
and he shall divideºº
the spoilº
withº
the strong;º
becauseºº
he hath poured outºº
his soulº
unto death:º
and heº
was numberedºº
withº
the transgressors;ºº
and he bareºº
the sinº
of many,º
and made intercessionºº
for the transgressors.ºº |

53:12
Therefore will I divide him [a portion] with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors. |
