 56:1 ¶ [[To the chief Musicianºº uponº Yôna± ´Ëlem Ræçökîm יוֹנַת־אֵלֶם־רְחֹקִים,º Mi¢täm מִכתָּםº of Däwið דָּוִד,º when the Pælištîm פְּלִשׁתִּיםº tookºº him in Ga± גַּת.]]º Be mercifulºº unto me, O ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִים:º forº manº would swallow me up;ºº he fightingºº dailyºº oppressethºº me.

 56:1 ¶ [[To the chief Musician upon Yonath-Elem-Rechoqim, Mikhtam of Dawid, when the Pelishtim took him in Gath.]] Be merciful unto me, O Elohim: for man would swallow me up; he fighting daily oppresseth me.

 56:2 Mine enemiesºº would dailyºº swallowºº [me] up:º forº [they be] manyº that fightºº against me, O thou most High.º

 56:2 Mine enemies would daily swallow [me] up: for [they be] many that fight against me, O thou most High.

 56:3 What timeº I am afraid,ºº Iº will trustºº inº thee.

 56:3 What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.

 56:4 In ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִיםº I will praiseºº his word,º in ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִיםº I have put my trust;ºº I will notº fearºº whatº fleshº can doºº unto me.

 56:4 In Elohim I will praise his word, in Elohim I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me.

 56:5 Everyº dayº they wrestºº my words:º allº their thoughtsº [are] againstº me for evil.º

 56:5 Every day they wrest my words: all their thoughts [are] against me for evil.

 56:6 They gather themselves together,ºº they hideºººº themselves, theyº markºº my steps,º whenº they waitºº forº my soul.º

 56:6 They gather themselves together, they hide themselves, they mark my steps, when they wait for my soul.

 56:7 Shall theyº escapeºº byº iniquity?º in [thine] angerº cast downºº the people,º O ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִים.º

 56:7 Shall they escape by iniquity? in [thine] anger cast down the people, O Elohim.

 56:8 Thou tellestºº my wanderings:º putºº thouº my tearsº into thy bottle:º [are they] notº in thy book?º

 56:8 Thou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: [are they] not in thy book?

 56:9 Whenº I cryºº [unto thee], thenº shall mine enemiesºº turnºº back:º thisº I know;ºº forº ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִיםº [is] for me.

 56:9 When I cry [unto thee], then shall mine enemies turn back: this I know; for Elohim [is] for me.

 56:10 In ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִיםº will I praiseºº [his] word:º in Yähwè יָהוֶהº will I praiseºº [his] word.º

 56:10 In Elohim will I praise [his] word: in Yahweh will I praise [his] word.

 56:11 In ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִיםº have I put my trust:ºº I will notº be afraidºº whatº manº can doºº unto me.

 56:11 In Elohim have I put my trust: I will not be afraid what man can do unto me.

 56:12 Thy vowsº [are] uponº me, O ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִים:º I will renderºº praisesº unto thee.

 56:12 Thy vows [are] upon me, O Elohim: I will render praises unto thee.

 56:13 Forº thou hast deliveredºº my soulº from death:ºº [wilt] notº [thou deliver] my feetº from falling,ºº that I may walkºº beforeº ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִיםº in the lightº of the living?º

 56:13 For thou hast delivered my soul from death: [wilt] not [thou deliver] my feet from falling, that I may walk before Elohim in the light of the living?
