[them] from their children,ºº

to the generationº

the praisesº

and his strength,º

We will not hide [them] from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of Yahweh, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done. |

For he establishedºº
a testimonyº
in

יַעֲקֹב,º
and appointedºº
a lawº
in
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל,º
whichº
he commandedººº
our fathers,º
that they should make them knownºº
to their children:º |

For he established a testimony in Yaaqov, and appointed a law in Yisrael, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children: |

the generationº
to comeº
might knowºº
[them, even] the childrenº
[which] should be born;ºº
[who] should ariseºº
and declareºº
[them] to their children:º |

That the generation to come might know [them, even] the children [which] should be born; [who] should arise and declare [them] to their children: |

That they might setºº
their hopeº
in
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים,º
and notº
forgetºº
the worksº
of
´Ël
אֵל,º
but keepºº
his commandments:º |

That they might set their hope in Elohim, and not forget the works of El, but keep his commandments: |

And might notº
beº
as their fathers,º
a stubbornºº
and rebelliousºº
generation;º
a generationº
[that] setºº
not their heartº
aright,ºººº
and whose spiritº
was notº
stedfastºº
withº
´Ël
אֵל.º |
|
78:8
And might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation; a generation [that] set not their heart aright, and whose spirit was not stedfast with El. |

The childrenº
of
´Efrayim
אֶפרַיִם,º
[being] armed,ºº
[and] carryingºº
bows,º
turned backºº
in the dayº
of battle.º |

The children of Efrayim, [being] armed, [and] carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle. |

They keptºº

the covenantº
of
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים,º
and refusedºº
to walkººº
in his law;º |

They kept not the covenant of Elohim, and refused to walk in his law; |

his works,º
and his wondersºº
thatº
he had shewedºº
them. |

And forgat his works, and his wonders that he had shewed them. |

Marvellous thingsº

he in the sightº
of their fathers,º

[in] the fieldº

Marvellous things did he in the sight of their fathers, in the land of Mitzrayim, [in] the field of Tzoan. |

He dividedºº
the sea,º
and caused them to pass through;ºº
and he made the watersº
to standºº
asº
an heap.º |

He divided the sea, and caused them to pass through; and he made the waters to stand as an heap. |

In the daytimeº
also he ledºº
them with a cloud,º
and allº
the nightº
with a lightº
of fire.º |

the rocksº
in the wilderness,º
and gave [them] drinkºº
as [out of] the greatº

And they sinned yet more against him by provoking Elyon in the wilderness. |

in their heartº
by askingºº
meatº
for their lust.º |

And they tempted El in their heart by asking meat for their lust. |

Yea, they spakeºº
against
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים;º
they said,ºº
Canºº
´Ël
אֵלº
furnishºº
a tableº
in the wilderness?º |
|
78:19
Yea, they spake against Elohim; they said, Can El furnish a table in the wilderness? |
|
78:20
Behold,º
he smoteºº
the rock,º
that the watersº
gushed out,ºº
and the streamsº
overflowed;ºº
canºº
he giveºº
breadº
also?º
canºº
he provideºº
fleshº
for his people?º |
|
78:20
Behold, he smote the rock, that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? can he provide flesh for his people? |

Thereforeº
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
heardºº
[this], and was wroth:ºº
so a fireº
was kindledºº
against
Ya`áköv
יַעֲקֹב,º
and angerº
alsoº
came upºº
against
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל;º |

Therefore Yahweh heard [this], and was wroth: so a fire was kindled against Yaaqov, and anger also came up against Yisrael; |

Becauseº
they believedºº
notº
in
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים,º
and trustedºº
notº
in his salvation:º |
|
78:22
Because they believed not in Elohim, and trusted not in his salvation: |
|
78:23
Though he had commandedºº
the cloudsº
from above,ºº
and openedºº
the doorsº
of heaven,º |
|
78:23
Though he had commanded the clouds from above, and opened the doors of heaven, |
|
78:24
And had rained downºº
mannaº
uponº
them to eat,ºº
and had givenºº
them of the cornº
of heaven.º |

And had rained down manna upon them to eat, and had given them of the corn of heaven. |

Manº

angels'º
food:º
he sentºº
them meatº
to the full.º |

in the heaven:º
and by his powerº

them their own desire;º |

The wrathº

´Élöhîm

cameºº
upon them, and slewºº
the fattestº
of them, and smote downºº
the chosenº
[men] of
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל.º |

The wrath of Elohim came upon them, and slew the fattest of them, and smote down the chosen [men] of Yisrael. |
|
78:32
For allº
thisº
they sinnedºº
still,º
and believedºº
notº
for his wondrous works.ºº |
|
78:32
For all this they sinned still, and believed not for his wondrous works. |
|
78:33
Therefore their daysº
did he consumeºº
in vanity,º
and their yearsº
in trouble.º |
|

Therefore their days did he consume in vanity, and their years in trouble. |

Whenº
he slewºº
them, then they soughtºº
him: and they returnedºº
and enquired earlyºº

´Ël
אֵל.º |

When he slew them, then they sought him: and they returned and enquired early after El. |

And they rememberedºº
thatº
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִיםº
[was] their rock,º
and
´Ël
אֵלº
`Elyôn
עֶליוֹןº
their redeemer.ºº |

And they remembered that Elohim [was] their rock, and El Elyon their redeemer. |
|
78:36
Nevertheless they did flatterºº
him with their mouth,º
and they liedºº
unto him with their tongues.º |
|
78:36
Nevertheless they did flatter him with their mouth, and they lied unto him with their tongues. |
|
78:37
For their heartº
was not rightººº
withº
him, neitherº
were they stedfastºº
in his covenant.º |
|
78:37
For their heart was not right with him, neither were they stedfast in his covenant. |

But he,º
[being] full of compassion,º
forgaveºº
[their] iniquity,º
and destroyedºº
[them] not:º
yea, manyº
a timeºº
turnedºº
he his angerº
away,ººº
and did notº
stir upºº
allº
his wrath.º |

But he, [being] full of compassion, forgave [their] iniquity, and destroyed [them] not: yea, many a time turned he his anger away, and did not stir up all his wrath. |

[were but] flesh;º
a windº
that passeth away,ºº
and cometh not again.ººº |

For he remembered that they [were but] flesh; a wind that passeth away, and cometh not again. |

him in the wilderness,º
[and] grieveºº
him in the desert!º |

How oft did they provoke him in the wilderness, [and] grieve him in the desert! |

Yea, they turned backºº
and temptedºº

and limitedºº
the Holy Oneº

Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל.º |

Yea, they turned back and tempted El, and limited the Holy One of Yisrael. |

They rememberedºº
notºº
his hand,º
[nor] the dayº
whenº
he deliveredºº
them fromº
the enemy.º |

They remembered not his hand, [nor] the day when he delivered them from the enemy. |

he had wroughtºº
his signsº

and his wondersº

and their floods,ºº
that they could notº

And had turned their rivers into blood; and their floods, that they could not drink. |

divers sorts of fliesº
among them, which devouredºº
them; and frogs,º
which destroyedºº

unto the caterpiller,º
and their labourº

But made his own peopleº

like sheep,º
and guidedºº
them in the wildernessº
like a flock.º |

Yet they tempted and provoked Elohim Elyon, and kept not his testimonies: |

But turned back,ºº
and dealt unfaithfullyºº
like their fathers:º
they were turned asideºº
like a deceitfulº
bow.º |

But turned back, and dealt unfaithfully like their fathers: they were turned aside like a deceitful bow. |

For they provoked him to angerºº
with their high places,º
and moved him to jealousyºº
with their graven images.º |

So that he forsook the tabernacle of Shiloh, the tent [which] he placed among men; |

And deliveredºº
his strengthº
into captivity,º
and his gloryº
into the enemy'sº
